We are Local 390 of the American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada, an international union representing professional musicians. While we are affiliated with other organizations in the trade/labour union arena, most of our members are indepedent contractors, so we provide services similar to other professional associations such as those which represent accountants, lawyers or doctors.

Our charter was granted in 1907 and this has been a very active location for live music, recordings and television/film production. This Association provides many important services which protect musicians, facilitate networking and allow access to a very strong pension plan and vital resources such as instrument/gear insurance. Along with local and international newsletters and special access to members' areas of websites, we provide a free referral service and support in the writing and enforcing of contracts. Special AFM work visas are available for Canadian musicians going to the US and even transportation of valuable instruments in the cabin of an airliner is facilitated through our intervention.

As the Local with the largest geographic area in the Federation, we have extensive experience with a huge variety of musical styles and with musicians from many cultures and all age groups.

The Musicians’ Rights Organization Canada (MROC) is a not–for–profit collective that collects and distributes royalties for performers. These royalties are payable under copyright legislation and reflect the rights of performers to be paid fairly for the broadcast and public performance of their recorded works. In Canada, these royalties cover a variety of broadcasts, including commercial radio, CBC radio, satellite radio and background music.
